  • That  we all have traits that can be used to push you forward in recovery.
  • A person doesn't need to change who they are in order to recover from their ED.

  • Being able to engage in all of the activities! The training put the book to life!
  • To treat the patient as the expert and the only one who knows what will help him/her to recover.
  • The profound importance of the support(s) for both the client and the support(s).
  • To do it " in action".
  • The group, questions, slides, exercises.
  • The structured handouts and being able to go through each handout together to ensure we could ask our questions and feel like we had a good understanding.
  • Commitment to the science.
  • Learning all about how the brain functions. The biological aspects   Loved the experiential activities.
  • All the brain training, the experiential exercises, the way it was organized, very easy to understand.
  • To experience the clinical tools.
  • I really enjoyed trying on the experiential activities and developing further as a clinician.
  • Interactive and integrative exercises.
  • The frequent recaps about what we learned at each section and case examples.
  • The manner in which the information was presented. We did activities but also when we discussed more research findings we were asked to discuss our take-homes with the group which definitely helped with solidifying the new knowledge learned.
  • Hearing the language used by both presenters. Break down of content and application using language and interventions.

Level 3: Live virtual consultations on TBT-S: TBT-S Integration into practice

  • It was incredible to work through real life cases with a (TBT-S  Codeveloper). We were able to explore the neurobiological basis of the patient presentation and identify effective interventions, role play the interventions, and dialogue along the way.

  •  (The Codeveloper's) flexibility and creativity in approach, recognizing that the way concepts and activities get applied inherently varies depending on the type of clinical setting/provider as well as provider specific nuances.

  • I also very much enjoyed the small group setting and the clinician who was with us, Learning through her process as well as my own.

     Everything!
Most importantly validating the client experience and therefore helpful   ways that we as clinicians explain the neurobiology and behaviors to clients   and supports.

All of the group activities in demonstrating brain activity. It   really reinforces how important it is to evaluate the way we empower our   clients.
How the value of the client being the expert is the most important part of creating change.

It was really empowering to see temperaments thought of as strengths, and that they can be used either constructively or destructively. This has been beyond useful when working with clients as rather than seeing them as "bad", it is a real shift in thinking.

The explanation of the genetic and cognitive picture traits and how to use them productively in assisting adults with AN.

The experiential nature of the training; the reflections from  clinical experience; the metaphors used throughout.

    " Neurobiological empathy"

Learning in more depth about TBT-S, its theoretical and research base, and hearing clinical experiences

        - clear explanations
   - interactive activities
   - experiential learning
   - time for discussion
   - practical examples
   - emphasis on practical tools and client-centered practice

Practical examples; engaging speakers/presenters.

Engaging activities; providing examples; explaining concepts.

     Slides, practice, activities.

Practicing the tools; language in small groups.

All of it, but bringing all together linking the structure with the key components   was especially helpful.

Everything was amazing. The practical activities are so useful   in bringing the theories to life and reflecting on the experiences of   clients, supports and clinicians. Loved the meet the expert activity.

The experiential exercises were crucial to my learning and so significant.

Walking through and experiencing all of the activities; and contextualizing traits   into treatment.

     How   the experiential activities always traced back to the traits;

Understanding  the neurobiology and how that causes symptoms; how clients can use traits to help them change behavior.

Experiential practice! and process/reflection after as a group.

Experiential activities.

Experiential activities; reflection/critique.

Doing the experiential activities to practice and embed the knowledge.

The facilitation was experiential. tried on everything will make delivery that much easier having experienced it as a participant. Also, Laura Hill was such   an entertaining + charismatic presenter. She explained things so clearly.

Brain wave thumbs up; Experiential work; Practice! Practice! Practice! to consolidate what was taught.

All of  the practical components and engaging with the big group; good mix of content   and education, movement etc.

All the practice and experiential exercises & length of time, as needed a few days to consolidate information + Laura's honesty and facilitation style.

Understanding more through activities what a client is experiencing and learning the skill of explaining this to family. Learning and being able to explain biological impacts.

Being  given the opportunity to complete the interactive client tools, helped to gain a better understanding of the clients' experience, and helps to practice for using the tools in the future.

Lots of opportunity to practice the skills and activities; Laura's style of training, engaging every single person in discussions.

Mix of theory and "trying on" all of the   tools/activities and telling of stories + options to ask questions in a group frequently.

Repetition;  processing after action; practice/persistence; structure/routine, e.g., post   exercise processing; linking back to traits ongoing; neurobiological learnings and having them reinforced throughout; warm and engaging human approach for facilitating.

Putting it all together- I’m very keen in implementation at my service. Clarity on the framework of creating a whole story using neurobiology, experiential activities and skills

Reviewing the process with working through assessment, then doing strait profile etc Behav Agreement structure & process for diff groups Toolbox strategies.

February/March, 2023

Understanding the personality traits- how they could be used to   treat patients with An
Understanding neurobiology and neuroscience and how it applies to the ED

What helped most was doing the experiential activities, learning about the neurobiological processes in anorexia, and reframing traits as strengths

Understanding and learning to explain the neurobiological aspects of AN.
Using experiential learning to teach concepts.

Really enjoyed the experiential techniques, experiencing the   importance/power of those. Also role playing the personality trait checklist.

     Neuroscience underpinnings

The training being interactive. The visual slides, having breaks   and the activities.

Getting a wider understanding of the neurobiology of AN.

Mixture of lecturing and practical/interactive components

     Experiential learning!

     The experiencing activities

    The practical application

34 = reported nothing was unhelpful

     Lots of information to process.

At times it felt like we moved through some of the research on   the brain quite quickly, needed more time to process.

I would like to have had slides ahead of time.

Nothing;  every element of this training was just so beneficial & crucial to my   learning including the education,  experiential exercises, stories and reflections.

I was a lone clinician. Having an additional clinician from my service to reflect on program and service development.

Training overall was excellent. Unable to fault any aspects.

Probably having tools all separated would have been good to have a folder/binder but recognize this as my own trait!

Level 1 Auckland, NZ

TBT-S is a very non blaming,  strength based approach. Understanding the neuroscience helps make sense of how we communicate with patients (i.e. not open ended questions but was it this or that) and set realistic achievable goals  e.g. two set meal plans, not meal plans that change every day - flexibility may come much later
That building supports around our patients is key  to enable them to make change as they are challenged with "non dominant" tasks to eat

   Research
   Tools
   Experiential learning

Introduction to the neurobiological understanding of AN

I loved the emphasis on neurobiology and   helpful metaphors and analogies to take forward in clinical work. The   reflective exercises were very useful.

Learning about how to incorporate and make space for peoples traits in a way that is productive within ED treatment.

Discussing neurobiology and understanding the importance of   traits and temperament.

The whole day.

I particularly liked the worksheets, the anxiety scale and the temperament scales
I liked the participant activities e.g. the non dominant hand exercise and how that helped really understand the non dominant task those with EDs are faced with at every meal
